Mobility for Discovery Camp Experience

Have you seen a mobility impaired child push a broom or doll stroller lately, reach into a cabinet, hold hands with a peer or just ignore you when you said"come here" as he left through the door? The Mobility for Discovery Camp Experience is a unique opportunity for young, mobility impaired children to explore and interact on their own. These "explorers" are provided with a variety of manual and powered mobility options in an environment that encourages developmentally appropriate exploratory and interactive activities. It is intended for children who cannot sit, stand, walk, or run.

This photo shows how a physically disabled child
is able through her own initiation to access her
environment and play like others would.

Allows physically disabled children the ability
through self-initiation to access their environment
so they are able to reach and grasp either toys or
play with their peers.

Over the past 10 years of camps, care providers have shared their observations of changes in their children during camp. These have included a happier disposition, more motivation to explore, an increase in arm and hand movements, improved sleeping patterns and an increase in vocal use.

The Mini-Bot powered mobility unit allows users to use either a joystick or switches to explore their environment.
